Mall food has come a long way since I was a teenager! The Mission Viejo Smashburger is located in the food court at The Shops at Mission Viejo, but it doesn’t taste like the food I used to save up my babysitting money to buy. This is gourmet made to order food at affordable prices.
As a vegetarian, I wouldn’t have expected a restaurant named Smashburger to be a good choice for me, but it is. In addition to the meaty burgers, they also have plenty of options for vegetarians and a gluten free bun is available.
Smashburger isn’t just a cute name. They actually do smash the burgers. Right after the meat is placed on the grill, it is smashed. This makes the bottom of the burger crispy and it helps seal in the juices. That’s how they end up with burgers that are moist and full of flavor.
I had a black bean vegetarian burger that was delicious. They are made fresh and have a creamy texture inside. My son tried and enjoyed a Smashburger and a Smash Chicken.
The Smashburgers are made with 100{4c41c5a6ab44e2224e17847b62ec61552d6cbb33ba429922acdf026e40af1447} Certified Angus Beef. He enjoyed the flavor along with the crispy outside and juicy inside. There are a variety of gourmet topping combinations to choose from. In Mission Viejo they serve a signature OC burger with truffle mayonnaise. Other restaurants have their own specialties.
The salads are also excellent and make a satisfying balanced meal. A side salad is also available. The Smashfries and sweet potato fries are both very good. They also have vegetable fries that I plan to try next time I’m there. For dessert, they have delicious hand-spun shakes.
The food and service were great at Smashburger Mission Viejo and I enjoyed my behind the scenes tour.
