LJB Farms – Farm to Table Farm Stand

LJB Farms

As a foodie, I can’t resist the pull of a farm stand, so I had to stop at LJB Farms in the Santa Clara Valley. The family farm is in San Martin, near Gilroy.

A small farm stand makes me happy, but a big one like this is an absolute joy. If I lived nearby, I know I’d visit at least once a week. Since I was just there on vacation, I had to stock up with lots of edible souvenirs.

Gilroy is known as the ‘Garlic Capital of The World,” so I was happy to see beautiful and fragrant garlic braids and loose garlic bulbs sold by the pound. They also had a variety of pickled, preserved, crushed and pureed garlic and garlic ice cream.

I like garlic and I like ice cream, but I hadn’t ever tried garlic ice cream. Now I have, and I’m not so sure what I think about it. My immediate thought was “why?” I’m glad I tried it, but don’t think I need to ever again. In my humble opinion, this is a combination that isn’t necessary. I’ll continue to eat both garlic and ice cream, but not together.

This was the right season for pumpkins, Winter squash and gourds, so they were plentiful and prices were low. I bought a lot and my family as been enjoying them at home. Most have been roasted with butter and garlic, since that is a family favorite.

Check out my garlic roasted Delicata squash recipe, for a simply delicious side dish. You can substitute another type of squash, but will need to adjust the cooking time for smaller or larger ones.

LJB Farms is a great place to stop, if you are staying in Gilroy or just traveling through the area. Kids and adults will enjoy the friendly atmosphere and authentic farmhouse decor.
