LJB Farms
As a foodie, I can't resist the pull of a farm stand, so I had to stop at LJB Farms in the Santa Clara Valley. The family farm is in San Martin, near Gilroy.
A small farm stand makes me happy, but a big one like this is an absolute joy. If I lived nearby, I know I'd visit at least once a week. Since I was just there on vacation, I had to stock up with lots of edible souvenirs.
Gilroy is known as the 'Garlic Capital of The World," so I was happy to see beautiful and fragrant garlic braids and loose garlic bulbs sold by the pound. They also had a variety of pickled, preserved, crushed and pureed garlic and garlic ice cream.
I like garlic and I like ice cream, but I hadn't ever tried garlic ice cream. Now I have, and I'm not so sure what I think about it. My immediate thought was "why?" I'm glad I tried it, but don't think I need to ever again. In my humble opinion, this is a combination that isn't necessary. I'll continue to eat both garlic and ice cream, but not together.
