California Strawberry Festival
Strawberry Meadows of College Park
3250 South Rose Avenue
Oxnard, California
May 17th and 18th, 2014
Each Spring Californians celebrate sweet, juicy and delicious strawberries in Oxnard, which is on the coast north of Los Angeles. The strawberries and other produce grown in this area make their way to markets throughout the country.
This was my first year to attend the festival. I had a great time enjoying the day with family who live in the area. As you can see, my niece had fun hanging out with Strawberry Shortcake who made appearances throughout the weekend.
In addition to meeting Strawberry Shortcake, we also enjoyed eating strawberry shortcake that we put together in the Build Your Own Strawberry Shortcake tent. It was fun to create my own just the way I like it.
There were berries available for sale and lots of other strawberry treats including strawberry smoothies and even strawberry popcorn. Prices were much lower than I expected for a festival. Smoothies were just $2.50!
There were carnival rides for little ones and for adventurous bigger kids and adults. There were fine arts, crafts and a variety of booths sponsored by local businesses. I ended up staying longer than I expected because there was so much to do.
Carnival rides were just $1 each for kids!
Parking is available onsite for a fee. Or you can park at one of several free lots and take a free shuttle to the festival. In addition to saving money, this also made it a lot easier to avoid traffic and get dropped off right at the entrance gate.
What did I bring home with me? Yes… strawberries!
Many of these were eaten right away and the rest were frozen to use in smoothies.
