microwave Pasta Para Duros

Yes, I can enjoy microwave pasta para duros, since this tasty snack does not need to be deep fried.

Deep fried Mexican pasta para duros with lime and hot sauce from a street vendor are delicious, but I try to limit my intake of fatty fried foods.

It turns out that these snacks are easy to make in the microwave without any oil.

I usually see them in the wagon wheel shape called duros or durritos.

You may know them by another similar name and you may have seen them in another shape.

At Mexican grocery stores they are often found in big bulk bins.

Now, they are also available in packages at grocery stores.

Before they are cooked, they look like an orange-ish dry pasta.

When they are microwaved or deep fried, the wheat pasta puffs up.

A small batch in the microwave is a quick and easy snack, that doesn’t leave me with an upset belly the way deep fried foods do.

Microwave Pasta Para Duros

Ingredients:

Pasta para duros
Lime
Chile Powder

Instructions:

Arrange the pasta para duros on a microwave safe plate, so that they are not touching and there is empty space between them. If they are too crowded, they will cook unevenly.

Microwave cooking time will vary between 15 and 30 seconds.

Set the microwave for 30 seconds on high.

Watch closely and stop the microwave as soon as they have puffed up. If you stop the oven too soon, there will be chewy spots. If they are overcooked, they’ll burn. Once you get the hang of it, it’s very easy.

Squeeze a little bit of lime juice on the durritos and then sprinkle them with chile powder.

Enjoy this flavorful snack!
