When it comes to stand mixers, there really is only one brand that comes to mind – KitchenAid. People either already have one that they love or they want one.
Coming soon is a brand new blender from KitchenAid. The Torrent’s revolutionary design just may end up as the go to blender that everyone has to have.
The Torrent will be available in 2015, but I was able to check one out at a sneak peak hosted at Melissa’s Produce. Their staff chefs prepared an entire meal using the Torrent – appetizers, entrees, dessert and beverages. They enjoyed using the blender and said it was a real time saver.
The blender has a powerful magnetic drive that is strong enough to blend ice, nuts, and other foods that are normally hard to process. Magnetic drives are used to power those trains that can go over 300 mph and they also do a great job when put to use in this blender.
When the jar is filled, you lock it into place, choose the setting and push to start. Then you just let the Torrent take care of business. There is no guesswork. It will stop when it’s done blending.
The speed is not constant during the blending cycle. It slows and then speeds up again to ensure that every little bit gets evenly blended. There is no need for a tamper, since the shifts in speed keep your food moving around.
If you need to add more fruit, veggies or other ingredients midway through the blending time, there is an opening on top where you can fee additional ingredients into the jar while it’s still running.
Clean up is easy with the Torrent. Everything but the base unit can be put in the dishwasher (jar, lid, funnel, cap). Since it’s sealed while it’s blending, there is less mess in the kitchen, too.
I got to try out one of the test units for a blended beverage. The ice cubes weren’t a problem and my drink was smooth and tasty. It only takes a moment to learn the basics and get the blender going.
I am looking forward to getting my KitchenAid Torrent. Of course, I’ll make the usual beverages, soups and sauces. I also plan to try making my own nut butters. Since it’s so easy to use and clean, I know this is a tool that will get lots of use in my kitchen!
