Lodi Olive Oil
Wine may be at the top of your list when you visit the area, but Lodi olive oil should be added to your list. The climate is perfect for growing olives and the oil is superb.
With many food products, you can choose a budget option without sacrificing quality or taste. However, when it comes to olive oil there is a huge difference between high quality oil and bargain oil. When you taste a good oil, you’ll immediately understand the difference.
Calivirgin is a family owned business that offers tastings of both their olive oil and balsamic vinegar. Knowledgeable staff is on hand to answer questions and help you find the oil that is right for you.
First, I tried the premium cold-pressed extra virgin olive oil, which is made from estate grown Arbequina and Koroneiki olives. The taste is pure and fresh, so it goes with just about anything. This is the one that I purchased, so I’ve been enjoying it at home.
The flavored oils are fun and full of flavor. They aren’t just “flavors,” but are made with real ingredients. Two of my favorites were Lusty Lemon and White Truffle. They are, of course, made with real lemons and real truffles. The flavors are strong and delicious.
Also, I tasted several types of balsamic vinegar that were out of this world. Yes, vinegar came home with me, as well.

Whether you are an olive oil novice or an expert, the Calivirgin tasting room is a fun spot to visit.
It’s always fun to taste, and I enjoyed learning more about how they grow and process the oil.
