When autumn arrives along California’s Central Coast, making a pilgrimage to the historic apple orchard tucked into See Canyon is a fun tradition.

During my recent trip to San Luis Obispo, I took the scenic drive down See Canyon Road to visit Gopher Glen Apple Farm.

If you love fresh-picked fruit, artisanal farm products, and crisp apple cider, this charming farm stand is a must-visit destination!

🚗 The Scenic Drive Down See Canyon Road

The journey to Gopher Glen is half the fun!

The road winds through lush, shaded canyon scenery surrounded by towering trees and countryside views.

However, because it is a rustic country route, there are a few important driving tips to keep in mind:

Drive Cautiously: The road is narrow, winding, and features several single-lane sections. Take your time, slow down around curves, and be prepared to pull over to let oncoming vehicles pass safely.
Check Maps Ahead of Time: Cell service (Verizon!) dropped out as I got further into the canyon. Be sure to look at your route beforehand or download offline maps so you can navigate without issue.

I was so glad I reviewed my directions before leaving and the gorgeous drive was absolutely worth it!

🍎 Apple Variety Tastings & Famous Apple Cider

Gopher Glen is famous across the Central Coast for growing a vast selection of unique apple varieties, with availability changing week to week as different crops ripen.

The staff working the farm stand are exceptionally friendly and knowledgeable, offering guidance on which apples work best whether you want to bake a pie, preserve a batch of jam, or simply enjoy fresh eating.

They offer complimentary samples of their featured harvest varieties so you can taste before you buy.

I sampled several options and fell in love with the Jonalicious apple, which is a delicious cross between a tart Jonathan and a sweet Golden Delicious.

It had a good balance of flavor and crisp texture!

In addition to fresh fruit, their famous apple cider is an absolute standout (and truly amazing!).

They offer samples at the counter, and you can buy jugs fresh or frozen to take home.

There is plenty of dedicated parking on-site, but it is a very popular spot!

Even on a weekday during my visit, there were over a dozen cars in the lot, so expect larger crowds on autumn weekends.
